1. Where LED strips are commonly used
LED strips are a flexible light source rather than a fixed fixture, which is why they turn up in so many different spots around a home: under kitchen cabinets for task lighting on the counter, along ceiling or wall cove channels for soft indirect ambience, inside display cabinets or behind a TV for backlighting, along staircase edges, and inside wardrobes or behind a bed headboard as accent lighting. 2. Picking the right strip: four options we carry
We went through the published spec sheets of four strip lights from our range. None of these is “the best” strip light overall β they’re built for different jobs, so the right pick depends on where it’s going and what conditions it needs to handle.

A few of the terms in that table are worth unpacking. COB stands for Chip-on-Board β instead of individual LED chips spaced out along the strip (the older, more common design, which is what “2835” in the other product names refers to), a COB strip packs the LED material into a continuous line under a single phosphor coating. The practical result is the light source itself looks like an even, unbroken line rather than a row of distinct dots, which matters most in cove or channel applications where the strip is at least partly visible rather than fully hidden. IP67, on the strip’s waterproof rating, follows the same ingress-protection system used across the lighting industry: the higher the rating, the more resistant the fixture is to dust and water ingress, up to and including brief submersion β which is why it’s the option to reach for anywhere splashing or humidity is a realistic possibility, rather than an occasional damp cloth. LED density (LEDs per metre) is a rough proxy for how smooth and continuous the light looks along the strip’s length, and separately for potential brightness per metre β more tightly packed LEDs generally mean fewer visible gaps between them. If the difference between a COB strip’s continuous line and a standard strip’s visible dots is hard to picture from a spec sheet, it’s easy to see side by side in person β all five Lighting Hub showrooms are worth a visit if you’d like to compare before deciding. And on voltage: a 12V strip typically needs a driver placed closer to the strip (voltage drop limits how far 12V can run before the far end visibly dims), while 24V tolerates longer cable runs before the same drop becomes noticeable β which is one reason some installations favour 24V for longer or more spread-out runs.

3. Installing and choosing well: a few basics
Colour temperature should match the room’s main light. A common approach is warm white (3000K) for relaxed spaces like bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas, and cooler or neutral white (4000K and up) for task-focused spots like a kitchen worktop where you need to see clearly what you’re doing. The reasoning is about how the eye perceives colour consistency in a space: warmer light contains more red and amber wavelengths and reads as cosy or calming, while cooler light contains more blue wavelength and reads as alert or clinical β which is why mixing a warm-white strip with a cool-white main light in the same room tends to look visually inconsistent (the eye notices the mismatch even if it can’t immediately name why), so it’s worth checking your existing fixtures’ colour temperature before ordering. For cove or channel lighting, measure the full length of the run first, including any breaks for doors or windows, since that affects how much strip and how many power connections you’ll need. An aluminium channel is commonly recommended alongside the strip itself, and it earns its keep in more than one way: it acts as a heatsink, drawing heat away from the LEDs so the strip runs cooler (LEDs lose brightness and lifespan faster when they run hot, so this directly protects both); it keeps dust and knocks off the exposed strip, which matters over years of use in a fixed installation; and its diffuser cover scatters the light sideways before it exits, turning a row of small point sources into what reads as one continuous, even line β rather than a bare strip glued directly to a surface, where individual LEDs can still be picked out as separate bright dots up close. Mounting: most strip lights come with self-adhesive backing (commonly 3M-branded) that sticks to most flat, non-porous surfaces well enough for short runs. For longer runs or anywhere the strip will take physical load, pairing it with a mounting channel rather than relying on adhesive alone is the more common approach. (Same sources as above.)

- IP rating of the Ecodo and Lightinghub 2835 strips: neither product page states a waterproof rating β the safest working assumption is indoor/dry-use only, and our team can confirm definitively if you have a damp or splash-prone spot in mind.
- Coverage per metre: none of the four strips’ pages state how much area or wall length a given length “covers” in practical terms β this depends on your fixture spacing and how bright you want the result, which is a conversation worth having with our team rather than a fixed formula.

What’s the difference between the strip lights you carry?
The main differences are waterproofing, length per roll, LED density and colour rendering (CRI). Our COB 480 is a dry-indoor option with a stated CRI (β₯80); the Strip Pion 2835 is our IP67 waterproof option; the Ecodo is our smart strip β multi-colour and dimmable for smart-home scene setting; and the Lightinghub 2835 is the only one with a 12V option. Can I use LED strip lights in a bathroom?
Only strips rated for moisture β of the four spec sheets we went through, only the Strip Pion 2835 (IP67, silicone-coated) states a waterproof rating. A non-waterproof strip like the COB 480 is meant for dry indoor spaces only.
